Publicity - SSAIB News - Spring 2009 - Issue 41

Editors Choice

In this issue of SSAIB News we have concentrated a little more on electronic security issues, our core sector. Using three case studies we explore electronic security systems by reviewing projects undertaken by three registered firms: 2020 Vision, CBS Security and Sightguard Security. This achieves two objectives, firstly it profiles some of the projects they have undertaken and, secondly, it provides insights into different ways of working and also explores the range and diversity of systems used by our firms. An additional contribution by Jim Winter, of Ascom, extols the virtues of IP Signalling and addresses the issues installers need to consider to make IP security systems work for them.

The article from Mike Jay, RISCAuthority Security Group, draws our attention to insurers’ concerns about keyboxes. In a similar vein, Mark Roddis of Lockton looks at efficacy insurance and the consequences on insurance cover if a system fails. Sticking with issues of liability, or potential liability, Michael Wetherall of Darwin Clayton raises our awareness of a company’s responsibility for employees who drive at work.

Contribution from inside SSAIB include pieces on Doorstep Selling and a ‘How-to’ guide to Minor/Small Words Certification from David Profit, Technical Manager. Geoff Rendall, Certification Manager, draws our attention to recent prosecutions by the Fire Services of those who flout the requirements of fire safety law. Lynn Watts-Plumpkin has had a busy time since joining SSAIB and is making great headway with the Guarding Schemes portfolio. Lynn has been very involved in SIA ACS certification, in particular with gaining approval for SSAIB’s Passport Scheme, working closely with Geoff Rendall.

Geoff Tate provides an update on happenings within SSAIB more generally and also gives an update on Standards issues.

There are numerous other small pieces of industry news, which we hope you will find interesting and informative.

Finally, I would like to thank all our contributors.
